How can I change the admin password in WordPress?
Introduction
We recommend that you change your WordPress admin password regularly to ensure the security of your website. You should also make sure that you use a strong password. A combination of letters, symbols and numbers is always a good idea.
In WordPress it is relatively easy to change the password of a specific user. Whatever the reason for changing the password, this tutorial will explain step by step how you need to proceed.
Change admin password in WordPress
First you need to log into your WordPress admin dashboard. You can do this by entering your domain in the browser followed by "/wp-admin", e.g. "mydomain.ch/wp-admin" where "mydomain.ch" stands for your domain name.
After logging in, use the menu bar on the left side of the screen to navigate to Users > Your profile.
You will then be taken to the Profile section which contains all your user data. Here you have a lot of options to configure your profile. If you want to learn more about how to change your user profile, please read our instructions: How do I manage users in WordPress?
Change the password
To change your password, please scroll down until you see the "New password" option and click the button "Generate Password".
When you click the "Generate Password" button, a text box appears with a randomly generated password already inserted. If you prefer to enter your own password, you can do so by simply overwriting the current password.
Directly below you will also find an indication of the strength of the password. We recommend that you avoid passwords marked "weak" or even "medium".
After you have set your new password, please click the button "Update Profile".
Your new password will be saved immediately. A confirmation message will appear at the top of the page that the profile has been successfully updated.
Well, that was easy: you have changed the password of your WordPress admin account and you can change it again at any time. We hope that this guide helped you and that you were able to accomplish this task with ease. If you need further help, please contact our support team.
