How do I install Joomla with Softaculous Auto Installer?
Introduction
Joomla is a free of charge, open source Content Management System based on PHP. With over 110 million downloads, Joomla is one of the most popular platforms for website development and management. In this tutorial we will show you how to install Joomla using the Softaculous Auto Installer built into cPanel. In just a few simple steps, you can set up and launch your new website with Joomla.
Entry
Before you can get started, you need to access your cPanel account. If you are not sure how to do this, you can find detailed instructions in our guide to the Access to the cPanel service.
Once you are successfully logged in, please navigate to the "Software" directory where you can find the "Softaculous Apps Installer".
As soon as you click on the Softaculous dashboard you will notice that Joomla is listed in the "Top Scripts" section. You can click on it directly to access the installation page. Alternatively, you can use the search bar in the left sidebar to find Joomla.
To install Joomla, please click on the "Install" button on the Joomla overview page to start the installation process.
Install Joomla
After you have clicked on the "Install" button, you will be redirected to the "Install" page. Here you must enter the required configuration information. The page is divided into several sections. To keep it consistent, we will go through each section individually, starting with the first section "Software setup".
The first thing you need to do is select the installation version. Currently Softaculous supports Joomla 3.10.11 and 4.2.8, we strongly recommend choosing the latest available version unless you absolutely need another version.
Next, you need to set the URL settings for the application:
Select protocol: Select the protocol for your Joomla website from this drop-down menu. Please note that a valid SSL certificate installed on your domain name is required for the secure HTTPS protocol to work properly.
Select domain: From this drop-down menu, select the domain or subdomain on which you want to perform the installation.
In directory: Here you can specify a specific directory where the installation should take place. If you want the installation to be performed directly in the main directory (e.g. https://meinedomain.ch), please leave this field empty. However, if you want Joomla to be installed in a subdirectory (e.g. https://meinedomain.ch/blog), please enter the subdirectory in this field.
Next are the sections "Page Settings" and "Admin Account".
The "Page settings" section includes the following two fields. Please note that the information entered here can be changed at any time:
Pages Name: In this field you need to enter the title of your website, which will be used in various places, for example, in the title bar of the browser, in the admin area and on offline pages.
Pages Description: Here you can enter the global meta description of your website. This will be displayed on all pages of your website and used by search engines to determine what your website is about. It is recommended to include all relevant keywords for your web content in the description to achieve better search engine rankings.
Admin account
In the section "Admin account" you have the possibility to configure your admin details:
Admin Username: Enter the username for your Joomla admin dashboard here.
Admin Password: Enter the password for your admin account here. Please use a strong password to ensure the security of your website. You can use the password generator ("key" symbol) to generate a secure password.
Real name: Enter your name, the name of the site administrator or the name of the site manager here.
Admin email: Enter here the administrative email address that will be used for all update notifications, password reset requests, etc.
In the section "Select language" you can select the default language for your Joomla website and admin dashboard.
Advanced options
In this section you can customize the database assigned to your Joomla website. Note that these settings are optional, so you can just skip them.
When you have filled in all the required information, please click on the button "Install"button to start the installation process. Please wait a moment until the installation is complete.
Congratulations! Joomla has been successfully installed. In the last step you will get the URLs of your website and your Joomla administration area. You can now explore both and get started with your new website.
