WordPress 6.0 is scheduled for release on May 24, 2022. Currently, version 2 of the release candidate is available, which means that this version of WordPress could be ready for publication.
WordPress 6.0 why you should test it
Since the WordPress ecosystem includes not hundreds, but thousands of plugins of many types and themes, the community is constantly reminded that it is very important for all members to check if they have missed something along the way. This means that the project would love and appreciate our help.
Since the release of RC1 on May 3, 2022, the core development team has resolved approximately 40 issues in key features.
Install and test the release candidate
This version of WordPress is under development. I strongly recommend NOT installing, running or testing this version of WordPress on a production website.
You can test this release candidate in three ways:
Option 1Install and activate the WordPress Beta Tester plugin.
Option 2: Direct download of the compressed file containing the release candidate version.
Option 3: If you are using WP-CLI, run the core update command with version 6.0-RC2.
Testing and bug fixing are critical to stabilizing a release throughout development. This is also a great way to contribute to WordPress. If you're new to testing and troubleshooting, check out this detailed guide in the WordPress Knowledge Base.
Summary
WordPress 6.0 is already a reality. In a few weeks we will be able to download the new version and all its improvements, but for now the core development team needs the community to find and fix issues. Install and test the release candidate!
